When Your Doctor Says You’re Fine (But You’re Not)

Most people think doctors are experts on menopause.

That’s a lie.

Even physicians don’t have answers.

You can’t sleep.

You’re gaining weight.

You forget things that used to be second nature.

You don’t feel like yourself anymore.

And they say you’re fine.

You nod and say “okay.”

You go back for help.

They run the same labs.

They give the same answer.

And you start to think maybe it is in your head.

But it’s not.

I spoke with another doctor recently.

Her own physician missed her symptoms.

Told her everything was “normal.”

By the time she got the right help, the damage was done.

I get it.

Because most doctors were never trained to understand menopause.

So the family doctor you’re seeing might know what it is, but doesn’t understand how it feels.

You say, “I’m tired.”

They check your labs.

Normal.

You say, “I can’t focus.”

They recommend therapy.

You say, “I feel like I’m losing myself.”

They tell you it’s just aging.

But it’s not.

It’s hormones.

And you leave the appointment with your labs “normal” and your life unraveling.

They know what to do when something is wrong on paper, but not when a woman feels wrong in her own body.

No shade to my colleagues.

We’re doing our best with the education we got.

But there’s a gap here.

Because this isn’t rare.

It’s happening to thousands of women who are suffering in silence.

Scroll through a Facebook group or two.

You’ll see it everywhere.

And every time they’re brushed off, they start to doubt themselves a little more.

They’re not crazy.

They’re not overreacting.

They’re in menopause.

And they deserve answers.

So ladies if you’re not getting them, go where you will be heard.

Because you deserve more.

That’s all.
