GLP-1 medications and menopause: what the stigma gets wrong

We were eating lunch inside after an amazing session.

A room full of smart, successful women.

The kind of women who usually have the answers.

There were six of us at the table. Most of us had just met.

As we passed around the salad dressing.

And introduced ourselves, I shared what I do.

That I help women lose weight, manage stress, and feel like themselves again.

Then the table got quiet. That kind of silence means you’ve hit something personal.

One woman finally spoke up.

She looked straight at me and asked,

“Do you prescribe those weight loss shots?”

I said yes. She nodded slowly. Then said.

“I don’t know. That stuff seems like it's the easy way out.”

Another woman jumped in.

“If I could just stick to my eating plan, I wouldn’t need something like that.”

But the quietest woman at the table said what many are too afraid to admit.

“I’ve been trying to lose the same 25 pounds for three years."

And I have tried every diet. But I still wake up tired and starving.

That’s when it got real. The day before, I had a client tell me the same thing.

She was doing everything right.Tracking food. Strength training 3X per week.

Finally she connected with me. After the frustration built up.

She didn’t want to try medication either.

Not because she didn’t believe it would help.

But because it felt like cheating.

She thought she should be able to figure it out.

Here’s what I told her. And what I told the women at that table:

You don’t need medication to lose weight.

But if you’ve tried everything and your body still won’t respond,

The problem isn’t your effort. It might be your hormones.

Your metabolism. The way stress has been living in your body for years.

To be clear: GLP-1s are not magic.

They are not a shortcut and they’re not for everyone.

But they can help the right woman. They may help:

👉🏽Calm cravings.

👉🏽Reduce inflammation.

👉🏽Lower your blood pressure.

They give your body a reset. And when we combine that with a plan.

One that includes nutrition, movement, stress support, and accountability.

That’s when lasting change happens.

So if you’re sitting with the same question.

“Do I really need meds?” Maybe ask this instead.

Am I tired of watching the pounds pile on?

No matter how clean I eat or how often I work out?

Am I tired of giving it my all?

And STILL not seeing results?

If that’s where you are.

Maybe it's time for something different.

If the answer is yes.

Let’s talk about what’s going on in your body.

And what might actually work.

You don’t have to keep struggling.

You need a plan that finally works. for your body, in this season of life.

Rooting for you,

Dr. Beckford
